Boys Town offers Common Sense Parenting® (CSP) classes that give parents and caregivers practical tools for handling everyday family challenges. These research-based classes are available both online and in person, making them accessible to families with different schedules and needs. Programs are designed to strengthen the skills parents already have while helping them build healthier, more positive relationships with their children.
The classes focus on important parenting skills such as communication, decision-making, discipline, self-control, relationship building and supporting school success. Parents learn through interactive instruction that includes demonstrations, discussions and hands-on practice, allowing them to apply techniques in real-life situations. Specialized support is also available for caregivers of children with behavioral or developmental challenges, including ADHD and autism spectrum disorders.
Parenting programs are offered for families with children in different age groups, including ages 2–5 and 6–16. Spanish-speaking families can participate in La Crianza Práctica de los Hijos, a Spanish-language version of the parenting classes that provides the same practical guidance in a culturally supportive setting. Many programs also include access to workbooks, parenting resources and support communities that help families continue learning after the classes end.
In addition to parenting education, Boys Town New England provides support for families involved with the Department of Children and Families in Massachusetts and offers community parenting classes throughout New England. Families can also receive referrals to other helpful services and support programs through Boys Town’s network of community resources. These services aim to create stronger families, improve child behavior and encourage long-term family success.
The Common Sense Parenting program also supports parents involved in the correctional system in Rhode Island, especially individuals preparing to return home after incarceration. These classes help parents rebuild trust, strengthen family relationships and develop healthier parenting habits as they transition back into their communities. Participants learn practical strategies for communication, emotional control, problem-solving and creating stable routines for their children.
For parents reentering society, CSP classes provide guidance on balancing the challenges of employment, housing, family reunification and parenting responsibilities. The program encourages accountability, positive decision-making and long-term relationship building to help families reconnect in healthy and supportive ways. By giving parents tools for stability and stronger communication, the program helps reduce family stress and supports successful reintegration into community life.
