At Boys Town, where hope is built one relationship at a time, Curtis Brown has spent the last 16 years doing something remarkable, quietly changing lives.

When Brown first began his work, he likely never imagined the scope of his impact. Today, that impact is undeniable. Since August 23, 2010, he has served 115 families and more than 300 youth through Boys Town’s In-Home Family Services program. And he is still going as strong as ever.

Brown, however, would be the last person to highlight those numbers.

He views his role not as a job, but as a calling.

“Curtis has spent the last 16 years in the Boys Town In-Home Family Services program. He has served children and families with humility, faith and unwavering dedication,” said Lisa Pierce, Boys Town Senior Director of Program Operations. “He sees the work as a true calling and leads quietly by example, meeting others where they are, offering second chances without judgment and providing steady support to all. His reliability, compassion and spiritual grounding have made him an inspiration to colleagues and the families he serves.”

Those who work alongside Brown echo that sentiment. His team describes him as an incredibly hard worker who always puts the youth and families he serves first, often to the point where colleagues have to remind him to take time for himself and his own family.

It’s simply who he is.

Brown is known for the small, meaningful gestures that leave a lasting impact. He’ll ask someone how their day is going -- and truly listen. If the moment calls for it, he’ll offer to pray with them. For families facing difficult circumstances, those moments can be as powerful as any formal intervention.

“It’s hard to put into words just how much of a light he is to the program and the organization,” one colleague shared. “Curtis is just irreplaceable.”

That light is fueled by a deep sense of purpose. Before joining Boys Town, Brown spent decades working with youth and families through ministry, including leading mission and humanitarian trips to more than 30 countries and serving as a pastor for 20 years. His path eventually led him to Boys Town, first as a Family-Teacher, then a family consultant on campus, and ultimately to his current role in In-Home Family Services.

“What drew me to Boys Town was its mission and the beautiful story of Father Flanagan and his passion to start Boys Town in 1917, and the spiritual aspect of this amazing organization,” Brown said. “What has kept me at Boys Town the past 16 years has been the families that I work with and seeing many of them start to win, overcome, then find freedom from discouragement and generational hardships.”

Over time, he has witnessed transformation not just in the youth he serves, but across entire families.

“I love working with youth and families that are striving to make life more productive for all involved,” Brown said. “I know many families are stuck in a rut and need the tools to navigate through life with more purpose and vision. I feel like Boys Town and our model can be very helpful when applied in practical ways.”

That belief has guided his work, and it has not gone unnoticed. Brown recently earned his 16th certification as an In-Home Family Consultant, a milestone that reflects both his expertise and his commitment to growth.

Still, for Brown, the most meaningful rewards aren’t found in certifications or statistics. They’re found in the quiet victories, the family that begins to communicate again, the young person who starts to believe in their future, the parent who gains the confidence to lead with strength and compassion.

“I know there is hope for youth and families,” Brown said. “I know we are all a work in progress, and I trust that Boys Town will continue to do great things.”

In a role that demands patience, resilience and heart, Curtis Brown brings all three, every single day. His work may not always seek the spotlight, but its impact shines brightly in the lives he’s helped shape.

At Boys Town, that kind of impact is what the mission is all about.
