Boys Town North Florida Hosts Third Annual Career and Resource Fair

Career fairs offer a chance to network and dream about the working world.

For Boys Town North Florida youth, that vision became a reality on Saturday, June 28, when Boys Town hosted its Third Annual Career and Resource Fair. The event, held at ART Town, was designed to expose youth to new job opportunities and connect them to career contacts in fields they hoped to someday be a part of.

Upon check in, participants were handed a “Career Fair Quiz,” which could be completed by receiving answers from exhibitors. Youth visited each table, quizzing exhibitors about their profession.

Vendors included business professionals, trade schools and military recruiters. Participants left with brochures, merchandise and ideas of what the future might offer.

“The Career Fair was a success,” said Keely Heitland, Senior Director of Program Operations. “Our youth were exposed to a wide range of professions and had time to connect with vendors. Hopefully, they left the event with a renewed sense of possibility.”

One of the most popular tables was represented by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Its display included a bear skin, alligator head and live baby alligator which guests could hold while its jaws were secured. Brave guests used two hands to handle the reptile at arm’s length.

Boys Town North Florida would like to thank the exhibitors who presented, as well as the volunteers who set up, facilitated and cleaned up afterwards. We are thankful for their role in helping shape the future of our Boys Town youth.
