Boys Town Louisiana Hosts Third Annual Spirit of Youth Awards Gala

In an evening filled with hope, inspiration and the spirit of giving back, Boys Town Louisiana hosted its third annual Spirit of Youth Awards Gala at the Barnett Hotel in New Orleans. This year’s event held special significance as it celebrated the community’s commitment to nurturing young talent and recognized Judge Ranord J. Darensburg and Boys Town alumna Amanda Martinez with the prestigious Spirit of Youth Award.

The evening began with a warm welcome from Boys Town leadership who emphasized the importance of supporting at-risk youth and fostering their growth into responsible, accomplished individuals. One of the highlights of the gala was the presentation of the Spirit of Youth Award to Judge Darensburg, who has been a steadfast advocate for youth in the community, working tirelessly to provide them with opportunities for a brighter future. In his acceptance speech, Judge Darensburg shared his commitment to the youth of New Orleans and how he valued the juvenile court’s partnership with Boys Town Louisiana in providing holistic help and healing to the most vulnerable youth and families in the community.

Martinez was also honored with a Spirit of Youth Award. Amanda’s journey from a challenging upbringing to becoming a successful entrepreneur, Boys Town Louisiana supporter and advocate for youth is a testament to Boys Town’s transformative power. Amanda faced significant hardships, including being displaced after Hurricane Katrina. With the support of her Boys Town Family-Teachers and others, she transformed from an angry young girl into a capable and driven individual. Today, Amanda owns her own business and works for professional sports teams in both the NFL and the NBA.

The evening featured a performance by classical pianist Marley Marsalis, adding a touch of elegance to the event. Following the awards ceremony, attendees enjoyed an afterparty with live music from Boys Town Louisiana employee Semaj Collins-Douglas and her band, the Blues Experiment, creating a lively and celebratory atmosphere.

As the night ended, it left attendees with a sense of hope and a renewed commitment to empowering the next generation. Boys Town, Judge Darensburg and individuals like Amanda are shining examples of how a community can come together to provide opportunities and support for young people to flourish. The gala was not just a celebration; it was a reminder that every young person’s potential is worth nurturing and celebrating.
