With the help of Boys Town High School junior Jafar leading the tour, the Syracuse Junior High Student Council made its annual Spring visit to the Boys Town campus on Monday, April 24, 2023. The group met with Father Steven Boes at Boys Town headquarters and presented him a $750 check toward the new Education Center that is nearing its construction completion.
Over the past 17 years, the group has generously given a total of $8,500 to the Home. This year, the group's sponsor, Sallie Agena, said it was exciting to see the progress made in the last year on the Education Center. And now the excitement builds to see the final product completed next school year.
"What an impressive building," Agena said. “To see the progress made in the past year, our group could just feel the excitement Jafar and the other Boys Town youth have looking forward. Ever since our first visit back in 2007, Boys Town has left a lasting impression on our students. They have learned what Boys Town does for children – children that they have learned are just like them. And, they have learned a lot about the Home. Most importantly, they brought that message back to their classmates and it has created a great feeling for Boys Town."
This year the group visited the Hall of History, Visitors Center, Palrang Fieldhouse and Dowd Chapel, the final resting spot of Boys Town founder, Father Edward Flanagan. The group was also able to tour a Family Home. It was an extra special tour for Jafar.
"It was fantastic that Jafar was able to show us his home on campus," Agena said. “Meeting his Family-Teachers was so special for our kids. It gave them an up-close look at what the Family Home setting is at Boys Town. It was an experience I know they will never forget."
Agena said the group is full of anticipation for next year.
"We can't wait for next year when the new Education Center will be open," Agena said. “And, hopefully, Jafar will be able to give us a tour of the new building. We are so thankful for our relationship with Boys Town and are proud to make a small contribution to the students and campus over the years."
